One component of MTSS is effective first tier instruction. Universal Design for Learning is the framework that specifically supports this component, and has been written into the Every Student Succeeds Act. Because of this, many districts are moving to implement UDL within their schools and many teachers are wanting more information on how to best meet the needs of all students by focusing on Universal Design.

This session will introduce participants to Universal Design for Learning, including the theory and research behind UDL, the neuroscience of expert learning, the UDL big ideas of removing barriers in order to reach goals and provide access, and a quick jump into the UDL guidelines themselves.
