In this session, we will discuss the journey we have been on with secondary schools throughout California as they implement California's Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) - a comprehensive framework that aligns academic, behavioral, and social-emotional learning in a fully integrated system of support for the benefit of all students.
As part of the session, we emphasize the importance of defining a holistic set of student outcomes so that students, families, and educators have a universal understanding providing coherence to all of the ways a school is supporting its students. To facilitate this discussion, we introduce Dr. Conley’s Four Keys to College and Career Readiness — a framework to help all stakeholders identify and prioritize the skills needed to be successful after high school. In its simplest form, we refer to the Four Keys as Think, Know, Act, Go. In other words, students ready to be lifelong learners have the ability to THINK deeply about what they are doing; KNOW contextually why they learn; ACT purposefully to achieve their goals; and GO successfully through life’s transitions. We also highlight the successes and challenges secondary schools face when implementing this work, and give participants the opportunity to engage and collaborate with others in the room through interactive protocols.
