College Readiness Assessments: A close analysis into a district’s landscape providing Access and Opportunity
An increasing number of school districts in California administer College Readiness Assessments like the PSAT™ 8/9, the PSAT/NMSQT®, the PSAT™ 10, or the SAT® School Day.  Additionally, many California districts have removed barriers and expanded access for students to also participate in Advanced Placement®.  This session will walk through the College Board’s Equity and Excellence report and present supporting resources that allow a district to focus on key areas (aspire, expand, strengthen, and refine) when examining the AP programs of their schools and the AP program of the district as a whole. Starting with Why: An Introduction to Universal Design for Learning (SCC-Room 202)
One component of MTSS is effective first tier instruction. Universal Design for Learning is the framework that specifically supports this component, and has been written into the Every Student Succeeds Act. Because of this, many districts are moving to implement UDL within their schools and many teachers are wanting more information on how to best meet the needs of all students by focusing on Universal Design.

This session will introduce participants to Universal Design for Learning, including the theory and research behind UDL, the neuroscience of expert learning, the UDL big ideas of removing barriers in order to reach goals and provide access, and a quick jump into the UDL guidelines themselves. 80% of Bust! Understanding the Teacher's Role in Achieving Tier 1 Success (SCC 301)
Participants will gain a deep understanding of the importance of achieving 80% success in Tier 1 first best instruction and how it supplies the foundation for Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions. Participants will also consider historical and current “barriers” to 80% achievement and will reevaluate these barriers from a growth mindset perspective. Furthermore, participants will understand that Tier 1 first best instruction may look different from classroom to classroom or from school to school depending upon the unique makeup and/or needs of the students in those classrooms. The objective of this session is that administrators and educators gain an in depth understanding of Tier 1 instruction, leave with a goal for the improvement of their own practice, and a tool they can use right away to address that goal in their educational setting.
