Pre-Conference: Introduction to Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) (OMS Registration Required) (SCC-Room 204)
The National TA Center on PBIS defines PBIS as “a framework or approach for assisting school personnel in adopting and organizing evidence-based behavioral interventions into an integrated continuum that enhances academic and social behavior outcomes for all students.” This presentation will outline the key elements of this approach, key features of Tier I PBIS, and review PBIS fidelity and outcome data systems. The PBIS practices of defining, teaching, reinforcing, and responding will be reviewed. Examples and systems tools will be provided.  Click Here for Session Handouts

Pre-Conference: PBIS Advanced Tiers (OMS Registration Required) (SCC-Room 203)
Based on public health model, the PBIS framework provides for varying levels (tiers) of intensity to meet a continuum of student needs. This presentation will focus on Tier II and Tier III interventions and the systems and data features required to efficiently and effectively deploy these interventions into schools. Specific interventions including Check in Check out, modified Check in Check out, School-Based Wraparound, and Prevent Teach Reinforce will be reviewed and examples and systems tools will be provided. Lucy A. Vezzuto, PhD, is a Fulbright Scholar in Education and a Coordinator of Student Mental Health, Social-emotional Learning and School Climate for the Orange County Dept. of Education.   She provides training and technical assistance in the prevention and early identification of student mental health issues for adults who serve youth. She is a certified trainer for the International Institute for Restorative Practices. She is a member of the California Dept. of Education’s Student Mental Health Policy Workgroup and a member of the Orange County Health Care Agency Mental Health Steering Committee. She is a member of the California Department of Education’s Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) Initiative’s state leadership team advising on social and emotional learning.
